TRAVEL TIPS

Ecotourism

Although neither the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) nor the National Park Service has designated any parts of Colorado as endangered ecosystems, many areas are open only to hikers; vehicles, mountain bikes, and horses are banned. It's wise to respect these closures, as well as the old adage leave only footprints, take only pictures. It is considered poor form to pick wildflowers while hiking, and it is illegal to pick columbine, the state flower of Colorado. Recycling is taken seriously throughout Colorado, and you will find yourself unpopular if you litter—which is also illegal—or fail to recycle your cans and bottles.

All archaeological artifacts, including rock etchings and paintings, are protected by federal law and must be left untouched and undisturbed.
